Paul Baker is Professor of English Language at Lancaster University and a member of the Corpus Approaches to Social Science ESRC Research Centre where he specialises in corpus linguistics and discourse analysis. He has written 19 books, 36 journal articles and 28 book chapters. and is the commissioning editor of Corpora journal. His books include Using Corpora in Discourse Analysis (2006), Sexed Texts (2008), Discourse Analysis and Media Attitudes (2013) (with Tony McEnery and Costas Gabrielatos) and American and British English: Divided by a Common Language (2017). His 2019 book Fabulosa! The Story of Polari: Britain’s Secret Gay Language was a Times Literary Supplement Book of the Year. He has worked with a range of groups and organisations including Obesity UK, The Home Office, The London Metropolitan Police, Mermaids, the National Health Service and the Muslim Council of Britain.
